Post-Pandemic Trajectories: Politics, the Economy, and Global Markets
A Live Webinar Series from Boston Colleges Carroll School of Management
As more Americans become vaccinated for COVID-19 in the coming months, and the remaining restrictions on U.S. businesses, travel, and in-person schooling are finally lifted, what comes next? What developments can we expect to see in domestic politics, and in our national economy as it recovers? And what opportunities and challenges lie ahead for investors and global markets?
These were some of the questions on tap at the 2021 Carroll School webinars, collectively titled Post-Pandemic Trajectories: Politics, the Economy, and Global Markets. More than 500 Carroll School alumni and others turned out virtually for the three-part series of live webinars in May 2021.
The series kicked off with a talk on May 3 by well-known political scientist and prognosticator Larry J. Sabato of the University of Virginia, who predicted that the Democrats would lose their congressional majority in 2022. Hes got two years, Sabato said of President Biden and his legislative agenda. Closely watched by news media was a May 5 presentation by Eric Rosengren, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, who sought to tamp down fears of runaway inflation. Articles about the talk appeared in the , , and other major outlets. The final webinar on May 7 brought together a panel of experts who addressed questions of particular interest to both retail and professional investors. The panelists had mostly good news for those investors, agreeing that the economy is on a path to clear recovery, though expansion is farther off.
